FlashGrid offers free migration assessment for customers impacted by end of support for Amazon RDS Custom for Oracle

April 28, 2026

AWS has announced that support for Amazon RDS Custom for Oracle will end on March 31, 2027. Customers must plan their migration strategy, with AWS recommending a move to self-managed Oracle databases on EC2.

To help Amazon RDS Custom customers minimize the risks and costs of re-platforming their databases, FlashGrid offers a free migration assessment of moving the Oracle databases to the EC2 platform using FlashGrid virtual database appliances.

FlashGrid’s virtual database appliances provide a simple, proven foundation for running Oracle databases on AWS EC2 while retaining full flexibility to customize the database servers to specific requirements.

FlashGrid Server

  • Delivers automated Infrastructure-as-Code deployment
  • Adds resilience and fast failure isolation with Active Reliability Framework
  • Follows best practices with proven configurations for Oracle databases on EC2
  • Enables reliable HA with Data Guard Fast-Start Failover (FSFO) by ensuring fast failure isolation
  • Provides top quality 24/7 support for the entire infrastructure stack

FlashGrid Cluster extends FlashGrid Server with advanced high availability options:

  • Oracle RAC for mission-critical workloads
  • Oracle Failover HA for simplified HA architectures
  • Multi-AZ RAC clustering supporting uptime SLAs of 99.99% and higher

With both FlashGrid Server and FlashGrid Cluster, customer administrators have root access to the EC2 instances and the OS, and they can deeply customize the database server’s configuration. Additionally, disk storage configuration is more flexible, allowing database throughput to increase by 3x or more compared to RDS Custom.

Compared to the “build your own database server on EC2” approach, FlashGrid reduces the effort and time required to implement reliable database servers, minimizes the risk of fatal configuration errors, and ensures continuous, trouble-free operation with 24/7 support for the database server infrastructure.

Compared to the Oracle Database@AWS solution, FlashGrid allows customers to remain on AWS’s native EC2 platform without having to connect to and manage a second cloud. It also offers Multi-AZ RAC clustering capability, which Oracle Database@AWS does not.
