Leading African Bank Powers Mobile Wallet Growth with FlashGrid on Azure

Infinion Technologies delivers seamless migration and maximum uptime for mission-critical Oracle databases on Azure, thanks to FlashGrid

A top African bank sought to enhance its mobile wallet product, which plays a crucial role in delivering financial services to unbanked and underbanked customers. With millions of new accounts being opened every year, the bank needed a solution that ensured high availability and scalability to support rapid growth and meet customer expectations.

Agile growth and zero-downtime database operation

The mobile wallet application runs on an Oracle RAC clustered database to ensure maximum uptime and availability. As millions of new customers continued to join, the bank needed infrastructure that could scale seamlessly to meet growing demand—both now and in the future. While achieving this level of flexibility on-premises is complex and resource-intensive, the cloud offers a more straightforward path.

Still, migrating such a mission-critical system from an on-premises data center to Azure comes with its own challenges—chief among them ensuring fault tolerance, maintaining enterprise-grade reliability, and safeguarding uninterrupted service for customers.

Multi-AZ Oracle RAC on Azure enabled by FlashGrid Cluster

The bank partnered with Infinion Technologies, a leading solution provider in Nigeria, to modernize the application infrastructure. After careful evaluation, Microsoft Azure was chosen as the foundation. To enable Oracle RAC operation in Azure, Infinion selected FlashGrid Cluster to deliver the required virtual infrastructure.

A key factor in the decision was FlashGrid’s ability to protect against datacenter failures by distributing RAC nodes across multiple Azure Availability Zones. This architecture ensures that the database continues operating even in the event of a zone outage.

Working with FlashGrid allowed us to design and deploy a robust Oracle RAC infrastructure on Azure. The solution delivers the high availability our customer needs to power its modernized mobile wallet, serving millions of people across Nigeria.”

Design, POC, and launch with full support

FlashGrid worked closely with Infinion to conduct a trial deployment of Oracle RAC on Azure. At the same time, Oracle AWR reports from the on-premises database were analyzed to determine proper sizing for the new cloud environment.

Once testing confirmed the solution’s reliability, Infinion used FlashGrid automation tools to deploy the production clusters. Infinion’s DBAs then migrated the data using Oracle RMAN, ensuring a smooth and efficient transition.

Before going live, FlashGrid provided its complimentary Go-Live Review service—a technical validation process to confirm that the cluster was fully production-ready. This final step ensured the system was primed for mission-critical, non-stop operation.

High Availability Oracle databases ready for business growth

The modernized system is now live on Azure, powering the mobile wallet application with up to 99.999% availability. With Oracle RAC clusters stretched across availability zones, the bank can confidently support its rapidly growing customer base and transaction volumes.

By leveraging FlashGrid Cluster, Infinion delivered a resilient, future-proof infrastructure that strengthens the bank’s ability to serve millions of customers—furthering financial inclusion across Nigeria, Africa, and beyond.

FlashGrid customers include organizations across various sectors, including finance, government, telecommunications, e-commerce, healthcare, manufacturing, transportation, energy, and other vital industries.
